James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1896
131 LILLY WHITE* 8 CRICK.ETEK8 ANNUAL. fit W A R W I C K S H I R E . O f f ic e r * for 1895— President : Lord Willoughby de Broke, lion. Secretary: \V. Ansell, 78, Bristol Road, Edgbaston. Assistant Secretary: Rowland V. Ryder, 91, Alexandra Road, Edgbaston. lion. Treasurer: F . Messiter, 171, Pershore Road, Edgbaston. I f their experiences of the early part of the season only showed the Warw ick shire eleven to be a good batting side, in the later matches their all-round cricket was above the average, and, on the whole, there was some cause for satisfaction. There were three batsmen in quite the front rank, and Walter Quaife, Lilley, and Mr. Bainbridge, all of them had aggregates o f over 1,000 runs. In addition there were several who might at any time make a good score, notably W. G. Quaife, Mr. J. E. Hill, Mr. L. C. Docker (only, unfortunately, able to play rarely) and Law. Owing to ill-health Shilton was almost entirely lost to the County, and the loss of his bowling was severely felt. As it was, Dallett and Santall did most of the work. Whitehead was not so successful on the hard wickets, but Mr. Glover came off generally when tried, and in him Warwickshire has a promising all-round cricketer. L illey ’s wicket-keeping did not puffer by his success with the b a t ; on the contrary, he was one o f quite the very best stumpers of the year. Warwickshire’s 18 matches were equally divided between wins, drawn games, and losses. Results of Matches. Matches played, 18; won, 6 ; drawn , G; lost, 6 .
