The ground had not yet recovered from the effect of recent rains, and, favouring the bowlers, influenced the game in favour of Yorkshire. The batsmen generally were not seen to advantage. The exception was furnished by Mr. F. S. Jackson (76) and Tunnicliffe (58), who put on 180 for the third wicket in Yorkshire’s second innings; otherwise 29 was the highest score on either side. Hirst’s bowling had very much to do with Yorkshire’s victory. His 12 wickets cost less than seven and a half runs ajiiece. Yorkshire won by 205 runs. Yorkshire, 128 and 237 ; total, 365.
