THE COUNTIES IN 1895 . 113 M IDD LE SEX . O fficers for 1895.— President: Earl of Strafford. Vice-Presidents: Lord G. Hamilton, M.P., V. E. Walker, lion . Treasurer: W . Nicholson, lion. Secretary: P. M. Thornton. Assistant Secretary: J. A. Murdoch. Com mittee : Hon. A. Lyttleton, R. Henderson, G. Lee, J. Robertson, E. Rutter, C. M. Tebbut, M. Turner, C. I. Thornton, G. F. Vernon, V. E . Walker, I. D. Walker, J. G. Walker, A. J. Webbe. T hough the richest County of all in respect of the Amateur talent at its disposal, the success of Middlesex in 1895 was at the best of a partial character. There was any amount of batting, as there generally has been, and on the hard wickets prevalent throughout there ought to have been some high scoring. As it was Mr. Stoddart was not quite at his best after the Australian trip, and more than one other batsman hardly played up to his usual form. The most consistent run-getter on the side was Sir T. C. O'Brien, and his batting was throughout of a very high order. The brunt of the bowling had to be oorne by J. T. Hearne and Rawlin, and though they did their work well the run getting wTicket caused them to be slightly more expensive. Phillips was of great use at times, and Mr. C. M. Wells’ success at the end of the season makes one regret that such a good cricketer is not available for first-class cricket till the Eton vacation. Resu lts o f Matches.
