F ortune , which is said to favour the big battalions, has certainly not smiled on Kent of late. To lose such a bowler as Walter Hearne would of itself be sufficient to dispirit many a side. But besides this the County was not able to get anything like their best side together till quite late in the season. That it is not altogether an unmixed blessing to be dependent on Amateurs, however good they may be, Kent has had practical experience. Still, even at their best there was an uncertainty about tne Kent eleven last year which was a little difficult to understand. The dry wickets did not favour Martin or Wright, nor, for the matter of that, Alec llearne. though he was the most successful bowler of the trio. It is a pity that the Rev. W. Rashleigh is not able to play more often. His batting would immensely strengthen the run-getting, which was particularly well represented by Mr. Mason and Alec Hearne. A capable wicket-keeper able to play regularly is much wanted. In Mr. Bradley the County introduced a fast bowler who bids fair to be of use. Results o f Matches.
