Lancaster , 46, St. George's Place, Canterbury. Kent's record , considering the all -round strength of the eleven on paper , was certainly disappointing . The eleven began well with a victory over Lancashire at Manchester , but altogether only six matches were won against a similar number of losses . Kent, it is true , is not able to get its full strength till the latter part of the season . The exceptionally fine batting of the Rev. W. Rashleigh andMr. H. C. Stewart , who are only able to play in the later matches , will show howthe eleven would be strengthened were they able to play regularly . Mr. Marchant played throughout the season and with consistent success , having the best average of the year. Alec Hearne was not quite as successful as a batsman, and Mr. Masondid not quite fulfil the expectations based on his exceptional promise of 1893. On the other hand, Mr. Weigall showed a marked improvement, scoring consistently throughout. In bowling Walter Hearne wasthe mainstayof the side . Martin and Alec Hearne also were very successful , and the figures of these three bowlers were decidedly above the average ,
