Hirst had hit with power and judgment for 115, scoring at the rate of a run per minute, while Moorhousewas credited with an attractive 59. A snext morning Lord Hawkedeclared the innings closed , the pair had no opportunity of increasing their scores . Wainwrightand Peel bowledso effectively whenGloucestershire went in again that the effort realised only 151 , Mr. Page (36) and Wrathall (29) doing best service for their side . Taunton , August 26, 27 and 28. The last match of the season of both counties . In the opening day the bowlers maintained the upper hand. Gloucestershire , who opened the batting , were all at sea with the bowling of Tyler, and whenthe ninth wicket fell the total was only 60. Then, however, the last man (Roberts ) kept his wicket up while MrJessop hit , and the result was an addition of 55 runs, the Amateur putting on 61 out of 73 runs in fifty minutes . The early part of Somersetshire's innings was on similar lines , the first five wickets falling for 35. A stand by Messrs . Dunlop (21) and Woods(54) was mainly instrumental in the venture eventually reaching 141. Gloucestershire , thanks chiefly to W.G., Mr. Rice , Mr. Page, and Board, were able to register 135 as the outcome of their second attempt. Left with 100 to win, Messrs . L. Palairet and Hill made a promising beginning for Somersetshire , scoring 56 runs in fifty minutes . The next four wickets having gone downfor an addition of but 26 runs , Messrs . Woods (24) and Spurway (15) hit off the required numberwithout further loss . Tyler secured ten Gloucester- shire wickets for 101, and Captain Hedley eight for 105 runs .
