M.C.C had a very strong side , including Lord Hawke, Messrs . W . G. Grace , Stoddart , D e Trafford , Ferris , Hornby, with Martin , J. T. Hearne, and Mead. It was the three bowlers , however, who decided the result , and on a soft wicket the Sussex batsmencould do little or nothing against them. Mr. Newhamwas the highest scorer for the County with 14 and 9. Mr. Stoddart for M.C.C. alone scored five morethan the Sussex eleven in their first innings from the bat. There was not a changeof bowlingduring the match. M.C.C. w o nby one innings andtworuns. M.C.C. and Ground, 103 ; Sussex , 42 and59 ; total , 101. Martin(M.C.C.) .. O v e r s.
