Bailey , (Captain ) ; a good left -handed bat , with a beautiful off -stroke . Capital field at point . As Captain proved very successful in getting the team to do their best on important occasions . *A. F. Soames : A useful all round man. Very fair bat, with lots of nerve : would have been much better if he had not tried an occasional fancy stroke . Useful bowler , medium right -hand with an occasional leg-breaker . Displayed energy in the field . *E. B. T. Lee : An excellent mediumpaced bowler . Keeps a good length and comes across with his arm. Is liable to bowl too many leg -balls , through going at the leg stump . Can hit well , and is a safe field . Was unfortunately ill during the last part of the season . F. J. Portman : A much improved bat, though too fond of a pull . Bowls right -hand with a high action , and varies his pace well . A good and keen field . Captain for next year . H. L. Wethered : Avery steady bat , with strong defence . Can cut well . Must judge his runs better . Good and quick at short slip . *H. H. Sich : Ahard hitting batsman, without much science . Wasmost useful on slow wickets , as he
