James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1895
T H EUNIVERSITIESA N DPUBLICS C H O O L SIN 1894. 1 5 5 on one or two occasions whenhelp was badly needed. Average bat. A. H. Goodall avery fair bowler . Slow left . Would be better witha little more pace . Should keep his balls more on the off and beware of full pitches . Has been useful as a bat but mightwatch the ball more closely . Good field on the ground at times but unsafe as to catches . Average bat for bowling . *S. Lucas : plays with a straight bat, andhas been very useful in going in first . H e has , however , a fatal way of drawing himself in and so getting bowled off his pads . Excellent field at point . best for fielding . W. H. Follett : has come on wonderfully since the beginning of Term. He plays a steady game, though at present wants more power in his strokes . H a ssome nice cuts just behind point . A slow but safe field . E. H. Cave-Browne-Cave : owing to slackness hehas not been of as muchuse as he might otherwise have been . Has bowled well at times , though with poor luck . Can field excellently in the deep whenhe tries , and would make a bat with a little trouble . T. H. Fowler: a very promising wicket -keeper . Should learn not to throw back his headwhentaking the ball ; but with practice and experience should be very good. Will, with care , makeabat. *A. W. Sillifant often loses his wicket when first in through over -anxiety to score . Hasa very pretty hard drive between extra- cover and cover ; also a nice hit to leg, though in attempting to effect this he often gets in front of his wicket . Good field anywhere . Might bowl next year . *T. T. Simpson : fair bat, with a good full stroke for anything at all short . Somewhat weakon leg stump. Muchimproved field . *H. E. Clarke : must use more patience and learn not to hit at everything ; has a good stroke off his legs ; played an ex- tremely useful innings against Hurst at a very critical time. Good field at the beginning of term, but fell off very muchlatterly . M A L V E R N C O L L E G E . Captain for 1894,- C. J. Burnup. R e s u l t s o fM a t c h e s .
