Belcher ( Captain ) : In batting has shown astonishing improvement on his '93 style . H e now stands up well , and besides having a straight defence , hits freely and vigorously , especially on the off -side . His wicket keeping is not much improved . As captain he has still muchto learn about bowling changes . *C. G. Ames: Does not show any marked improvement in batting on his last year's form . He hits , perhaps , harder all round, but his defence is still uncertain , the weak spot being his occasional hesitation in getting forward to meet a ball well up to him. He has been useful as a bowler , right hand medium, plain and straight , but with a good deal of spin on, and has fielded brilliantly . R. E. James : Has developed a little style in batting , and played some useful innings , but still lacks patience and steadiness . His ' variety ' bowling , with big leg breaks interspersed , became very effective as
