True the latter beat its great rival twice , and once at least under conditions that did not favour them materially . At the same time Yorkshire were decidedly unlucky, in not being able to finish the last match of the season owing to two days continuous rain, while Surrey had the weather favourable sufficiently long to enable themto win their final engagement with Sussex . As it was Yorkshire's all -round cricket was of a very high order . On wickets that helped the ball they hadanincomparable trio of bowlers in Peel, Wainwright and Hirst , with a fourth of almost equal merit in Mr. F. S. Jackson . In batting , too, the eleven were a very level lot with run-getters to the last , as Hirst and Hunter showed more than In fielding , too, they were a decidedly good side , better , in fact , all round than perhaps any other County eleven . o n c e.
