James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1895
1 2 2 LILLYWHITE'SC R I C K E T E R S' A N N U A L. W A R W I C K S H I R E . Hon. Sec . , W. Ansell , 78 Bristol Road, Edgbaston , Birmingham. Assistant Sec. , H. A. N e w e y, CountyGround, Birmingham. Though they were not quite so successful at the latter part of the season , still , the Warwickshire Eleven showed themselves to be certainly a strong side . Their victory over Notts , at the commencementof the season was the outcome of some excellent all -round cricket . That it was no fluke , was shown just after- wards by their win over Surrey, who had the worst of the game on that occasion , at all points . A reference to the table results will give particulars of several good performances during the season . The Warwickshire Eleven were indeed capable of holding their own with the best . Mr. H. W. Bainbridge , the captain , batted with consistent success , and with Mr. L. C. Docker, Mr. J. E. Hill , the two Quaifes , and Diver , were batsmen, all of whommight fairly be counted on for a good score . In Whitehead, Pallett , and Shilton , they had a trio of very effective slow bowlers , and Santall , too , on occasions , proved a successful addition to the side . Areally fast bowler , though, would have strengthened the side greatly . R e s u l t so f M a t c h e s . Matchesplayed, 20 ; W o n, 7 ; D r a w n, 10; Lost, 3. Club. O p n t s. Opponents.
