T H ECOUNTIESIN 1894. 1 2 1 Hampshire, in their turn, thanks largely to Mr. A. J. L. Hill's 75, Mr. H. F. Ward's 65, with useful additions from Mr. D. A. Steele , Dr. Bencraft , and Bacon , were able to secure a lead on the first innings of 109. The side occupied the wickets only three hours and forty minutes in the attainment of their 251. Mr. Murdoch batted in good style in the second innings of Sussex, and was still in, with 172 as the result of a six hours tenancy of the wickets , whenhe resolved to declare his innings at 349 with two batsmen yet to go. Hampshire entered upon the concluding stage with only three hours for play, and 241 wanted. Bythe aid of a brilliant 117 from Capt. Wynyard, however, and another good score of 53 from Mr. Hill, they emerged from the ordeal triumphantly . Hampshire won by four wickets , Hampshire, 251 and 24 (six wickets ) ; total , 492.
