Wright, Lord Belper , R. Edwards, S. McCrae, W. Hollins , H. Turner, Dr. Williams , Dr. G. B. White, J. Forman, G. M. Royle, W. H. Speed, Dr. Dixon. Hon. Sec ., Captain Oates , Langford Hall, Newark. Secretary , E. Browne, Trent Bridge Ground. The all -round cricket of the Notts eleven contrasted very unfavourably with that of someten years ago. Shrewsbury's inability to play was, of course , a very severe blow. Another serious misfortune was the ill -health of Gunn, which pre- vented that great batsman from playing regularly till the season was half over. The cares of captaincy seemed to have a prejudicial effect on Mr. Dixon's batting , at least he was nothing like so successful as in 1893. Besides Gunn, indeed , the only batsmen who had an average of over 15 were Flowers and Mr. C. W . Wright, the latter of whomplayed several good innings , notably one against Surrey , at the Oval. All round the cricket was muchbelow the best standard of Notts . Still , the season was not without a certain amount of promise . In Hard- staff and Handfordthe County introduced new bowlers , and we shall be surprised if the latter in particular does not prove to be of use. In Pike , too, the eleven found a newwicket -keeper whobids fair to be quite first -class .
