T H EC O U N T I E SIN 1894. 9 9 (10 ) Leicestershirev. Yorkshire. As the wicket was HarrogateAugust16, 17, 18. suffering fromheavyrains , Yorkshirehadthe best of the luck in going in first . Obtaining a lead of 78 on the first innings , they wonin the end by 74 showing a very small difference , and that in favour of Leicestershire on the second hands. Withthe ground all in favour of the bowlers , the scoring all round was naturally moderate , and Pougher's second innings of 29 was the highest on either side . Peel's bowling for Yorkshire was the best of the match, and Wainwright's batting (22 and 16), the most successful on the same side . Hirst's bowling at the finish , was also very noteworthy. Thelast sixteen balls took three wickets , at a cost of only four runs . Yorkshire won by 74 runs . shire , 142 and95; total, 237. Leicestershire , 64 and99 ; total , 163. The rain which had allowed little play on the first day, prevented any on the third so that the chances of a definite result were only small at the best . The one incident of Leicestershire innings was the vigorous hitting of Mr. De Trafford who made 81 of the first 111 runs . Capt. Wynyard's success on the other side was more marked. He scored 116 out of 157 in anhour and three -quarters , with like Mr. D e Trafford one life . Later on Mr. W a r d68 and Barton scored heavily against the Leicestershire bowlers , weakened by Pougher's inability to help , and Barton w a s in at the end of the second daywith 81 not out to his credit . N o play was possible on the third day , so that the game was drawn with Hampshire 140 on, and six wickets in hand. Hampshire , 306 (for four wickets ). Leicestershire , 166.
