A very creditable victory for Leicestershire , the result mainly of Mr. De Trafford's excellent batting , and the effective bowling of Mr. Hillyard and Pougher. Yorkshire were without Lord Hawke, as well as Messrs . F. S. Jackson and E. Smith, and in losing the toss they had the worst of the wicket . M r . D e Trafford's hitting was quite the best feature of the batting . In the match altogether he scored 124 runs, and in the second innings he saw eight wickets fall scoring 92 out of 127 without mistake . Excepting for one over in Yorkshire's first innings , Mr. Hillyard and Pougher bowled throughout the match. Leicestershire won by 47 Leicestershire , 136 and 131; total , 267. Still , the Leicestershire batting was equally unsuccesful , and Chapman(35 and 12) alone got double figures each time. Warwickshire got their advantage in their first innings entirely through the last two batsmen, as Mr. Bainbridge (who arrived just in time to go in) and Whiteheadput on 71 for the tenth wicket .
