James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1895

9 6 LILLYWHITE'S CRICKETERS' A N N U A L. L E I C E S T E R S H I R E . H o nSecretary : T. Burdett , 21 Saxe Coburg Street Leicester . Leicestershire's record was just a trifle better than in the previous year. Still there was great room for improvement , for the defeats out -numbered the victories if only by one . There was, all the same, plenty of cause for encourage- mentand the double victory over Yorkshire v. Surrey was alone sufficient to prove the quality of Leicestershire's Cricket . The injury which prevented Pougher bowling handicapped the eleven severely in the latter part of the season , which was more fruitful in disaster to the County. Mr. De Trafford's hitting was of great help to his side , but the batting was not reliable to the last , and it was in this department that the eleven wanted strength . In Mr. G. W. Hillyard the County was fortunate enough to obtain a very useful bowler , and notably in the match against Surrey at Leicester he was an important factor in the success of the eleven. Woodcockarrived h o m efrom Americain time for the latter matches, and his fast bowling was of great service . As he is now engaged at Lord's , Leicestershire will be able to count on his help regularly in the future . Opponents . R e s u l t so f M a t c h e s .
