Of their total of 250 Messrs . Mason(55)and Rashleigh (76) contributed more than one half . Whilethey were together the two amateurs put on 114 runs in eighty minutes . Six wickets of Middlesex were down for 119, and it was only a brilliant and exceptionally fine display of hitting by Mr. F. G. J. Ford, who scored 60 out of 76 while he was in, that enabled them so save the follow -on. In Kent's second innings , Messrs . Mason(43) and Rashleigh (65), were again seen to advantage , and with Alec Hearne (85) the score at one time showed 233 with only three batsmen out. Ultimately the innings was declared closed at 327 for six wickets , with Mr. G. J. V. Weigall not out 70. Middlesex , who were without Mr. A. J. T w obatsmengot into three figures in the match, Mr. J. R. Mason (102) in Kent's first innings , and Briggs (101) in the first of Lancashire. Mr. Mason's score wasthe morenoteworthyas his first hundred in County Cricket . Walter Hearne finished up Lancashire's first innings in sensational style with three wickets from following balls . Atthe finish Lanca- shire had 175 to win, and Mr. A. C. McLaren (55), and Briggs (22), madea plucky effort to pull their side through . Martin's bowling , however, was a little too good for the majority of the batsmen, and Kent won, after a close fight , by thirty runs . Mr. G. J. V. Though they had a long way the worst of the first hands Notts played up so pluckily that Kent were after all beaten . Though rain prevented a start until past one o'clock the opening day saw the completion of aninnings by each side , with anadvantageof 63 runs to Kent. Mistakes in the field cost Kentdearly on the second morning, and Gunn, who made 49 out of 108 from the bat in the second innings for Notts, had more than a fair share of luck. With only 66 to winKent seemed to have an excellent chance . Flowers ' bowling , however, helped by the ground, proved very effective , and Alec Hearne (23) and Mr. Marchant(14 notout) alone got double figures .
