Considering the generally run-getting character of the wickets throughout the summer, the bowlers came out very creditably . Walter Hearne unfortunately was unable to play in the latter part of the season , a matter of regret in face of his consistently good performances for Kent. Peel, Wainwright, Briggs , and J. T. Hearne, of those of lesser pace , and Mold and Lockwood of the faster deliveries , were the most successful , that is , of the older hands . Richardson fully upheld his promise of 1892 ; indeed , he was the best fast bowler of the year. Hirst , the youngYorkshireman, too , made a great advance , and with the advantage of a regular place in the eleven , fully proved his ability as an all -round cricketer . Another comparatively young player , Brockwell , came quite to the front as a bowler in a season . Butone of the most, if not the most noteworthy feature , was the continuous success of Walter Humphreys. For a lob bowler 150 wickets at an average cost of under 18 runs , was a remarkable achievement . William Attewell w a snot so effective as in formeryears, as Notts foundout to its cost.
