1 9 0 8021 LILLY WHITE'S CRICKETERS ' ANNUAL. ancholy object . R. G. Anderson (9) : Has some nice strokes , and promises well . It takes him some time to get accustomed to the pace of the ground , and he con- sequently often loses his wicket through playing too late . Is very keen and is sure to improve. Wheeler , captain (24.52 )- Athoroughly sound bat, with exceptionally strong defence . Can hit extremely well on the leg side . Medium-paced bowler with off break . Safe point . Captained the Eleven with great success . H. T. Cronk (30.71 )-Bats extremely prettily , cutting , as usual , being the chief feature of his play . Has scored heavily on the fast wickets . Goodlong field . Has been seen to bowl. F. N. Macartney (20.1 )-Hisbatting hasbeen a vast improvement on last season ; his driving is exceptionally clean , and generally all along the ground. A useful change slow bowler , with great leg -break . Brilliant cover -point . E. Rymer-Jones (13)-His innings against Southgate , madewithout a bad stroke , at the beginning of the season , stamped himas a really good bat. Plays forward with perfect confidence . Good field at mid-off. J. W. Hadland(8.92 )--Nearly lost his place in the team in the first half of the season , but improved in his batting . Kept wicket in the absence of Mr. Ranson, but is painfully slow. M. G. Linnell (11.68 )-Onlyreliable bowler of the eleven , using his head well ; has done some very smart performances , and, provided he does not overbowl himself , ought to turn out a really fine trundler . Is very keen in the field , and has the safest pair of hands in the team. Veryfree bat. P. G. Swann(9.66 )-His batting seems to have deserted him, partly because he will never stand up to his wicket . Can at times bowl well , but is painfully careless , and this , combined with (apparently ) incurable slackness in the field , reduces himto the weakestm a nin theteam. Safe catch if he has not to be troubled to move. P. W. Simmons (8.12)---Very steady bat, who deserved to makemore runs . Poor field , but improved as the season went on. T. L. Kember(9.5 )- Ahopeless slogger ; occasionally makes runs if he survives his first ball . Fair field , but by no means brilliant . D. Money-Very steady bat, w h owill be good in a year or two, whenhe gets taller and stronger . Very fair field . J. M. Gaskell-Wastried for the Eleven for his fielding . Is very slow, but safe . Hasa cool head and one stroke peculiarly his own. B O W L I N G A V E R A G E S . O v e r s. M d n s. R u n s. W k t s. M .G .Linnell M c C a r t h y... P. G . S w a n n Rev. W . C. Eppstein R .
