T H EUNIVERSITIESA N DPUBLICS C H O O L SIN 1893. 1 7 7 WINCHESTERELEVEN IN 1893. -* J. R. Mason; Amagnificent school bat, and already a first -class cricketer , as his performances in County cricket showed, scoring freely all round the wicket , and possessing excellent judgment and nerve ; always reliable , and often difficult as a bowler (fast , mediumand right ), and a fine field in any part of the ground. Asa captain , he managedhis bowling well during the season , but the side always depended too muchon the one man. G .B. Stephens ; Agood and reliable batsman, whoshould develop into a valuable cricketer , and a good field at extra -cover . Captain for 1894. G. H. Gibson (medium left ) , bowled well whenhe gave up bowling fast ; varies his pace and has on most days a good fast ball . As at bat, he has several fine strokes and several weak spots . * T. Leese , had an unlucky season . H e is a fine but nervous bat ; a capital field at point . (Cambridge). T. B. Henderson ; Awonderfully improved cricketer , his best scores being madeby free and stylish play ; a first -rate catcher and field , anda useful fast change bowler . K. Wigram, got into practice only late in the season , and was hampered by a weakknee in the field ; he plays good cricket and scores quickly , especially from fast bowling . * J. H. Hunt; a wonderful catcher in any part of the field . A free hitter , successful at times , but no doubt wanting in style , and a useful change bowler . * C. M. Leese ; A very consistent scorer in the early part of the year, though later he gave up more than was necess- ary to secure his defence ; a sound though not very observant field . H. W. Kaye; Agood field at cover ; a batsman with good nerve , who knewjust how muchhe could do, and the hardest worker on the side except the captain . G. H. Rowe; a very promising young cricketer ; a brilliant bat whenin form, having a "big " fine style and scoring quickly . He catches and fields well . F. L. Festing ; A youngbut improving wicket -keeper , and likely to develop into a good batsman. S C O T L A N D . B L A I RL O D G ES C H O O L . Captain for 1893, C. H. Lenton.
