Wilson and Sharp bowled 2 no-balls each ; Bardswell and Taylor 1 each ; Baker bowled 2 wides, and Clover 1 wide. UPPINGHAMSCHOOL ELEVEN IN 1893.-G. R. Bardswell (captain )--- A very good player at all points of the game ; as a bowler he has great power over the ball , being able to keep it a good length , alter the pace , and put on a sharp break fromthe off ; he is a good bat, and able to cut anddrive well , though he was not quite so successful in this department as he was last season ; a very smart field at short slip , having a good long reach and power to use it ; has gone to Oriel College, Oxford. C. E. M. Wilson-Aglance at the averages will show he has donewonders with the bat this year ; a steady player , combining a strong defence with excellent strokes all round the wicket ; he is always a most difficult wicket to get ; is also a good fast bowler , who keeps an admirable length , with con- siderable break back ; has fielded well at point ; captain next year. *S. A. Sharp - Amost useful member of the XI.; has improved wonderfully with the bat, being the possessor of a strong drive and good leg-hit ; has bowled with success on occasion , and has fielded consistently well in the country . *E. Cowan Kept wicket neatly and well throughout a hard season ; has made great strides both in this department and with the willow , making an excellent century against G. Bird's XI. *G. S. Clover -Rather uneven as a batsman this year, but has at the same time played some most opportune innings , which have been marked for themostbytall hitting , notably a century against G. Bird's XI.; not very brisk in the field ; a fair change bowler . *A. W. Watson -Has been disappointing with thebat this year, probably owing to extreme nervousness ; a good worker in the field . E. F. R. Holroyd-Has played some good innings , but has yet to learn to punish loose balls with sufficient severity ; has not a safe pair of hands. S. P. Bell-Hasgiven several fine displays , notably v. M.C.C.; has a good defence , whichis however spoiled to a certain extent by a bad cross -stroke , which has cost himhis wicket on more than one occasion ; a good ground field , and can bowl lobs . *L. Birley - Has saved his side from utter collapse more than once by a steady display ; although an ungainly bat, plays very straight , and whenset can hit strongly ; uncertain in the field . *C. M. Baker -Acapital all -round cricketer ; plays a good game, but must cure himself of a silly chop -stroke ; a fair bowler , andvery smart in the field . J. Taylor -Has bowled consistently well through- out the season ; is left -handed, and keeping a capital length is always difficult to play ; has improved considerably both with bat and in the field .
