Underwood-A steady bat with fair defence but lacks confidence in his own powers . Wasvery unlucky at the begin- ning of the season but towards the end played one or two useful innings . A n excellent field at mid-off in which position he has saved a great numberof runs , but sometimes uncertain with regard to a catch . *G. T. Floyd-Agood slow left handbowler, has borne the brunt of the bowling , throughout the season , though hehas not done himself justice as a bat . *J. M. Brydone-The most useful bat in the team, but unfortunately has been unable to play in some matches through illness ; fair wicket keeper . (average bat. ) H. D. Floyd-A good hard hitting bat; has hadbad luck in the last few matches . A nerratic left hand bowler ; excellent field at point . C. C. Carter -Has improved as a bat , though not severe enough on loose balls on the leg side ; fair change bowler ; good field at times . Е. М . Austin-Good bowler (right hand medium) but has not been so successful during the latter part of the season ; should not try to bowl slow ; as a bat has improved greatly . R. C. Fowler-Steady bat having come on very muchthe latter part of the term ; an excellent field ; can keep wicket . E. H. Cave-Brown-Cave--H a s not been up to his true form as a bowler this season . Hits hard on his day ; the best out -field in the team. *C. E. W. Hope-A steady bat , playing forward hands and straight , can bowl alittle ; very slow in the field . J. L. Jesse-Withmoreconfi- dence would make a good bat, specially strong on leg side ; bad field . M .D . Cooper-Has only played in the last few matches ; a hard hitter and should make alot of runs next year. M A L V E R N C O L L E G E . MALVERNELEVEN IN 1893. *T. B. Rhodes-Has had a very successful season , and increased his reputation as a wicket -keeper ; with experience andpractice ought to be first class ; has also played some excellent innings , and comes out with a good average . *W. W. Lowe-A fast bowler, whohas his "off" and " on" days ; has done one or two remarkable performances this season , hardly bowls his slow ball enough ; a muchimproved bat, and an excellent field . *G. H. Neville -Has for the last two seasons proved invaluable as a fast bowler ; on his day is very difficult , gets plenty of spin and work on the ball , but is liable to bowl a good manyloose ones ; a good field , but moderate bat. C. J. B u r n u p - Hasto a certain extent lost his bowling , but has quite fulfilled his promise as a bat, andhas played two or three sterling innings ; an excellent field anywhere. H. H. Marriott-Wouldbe worth fully twice as manyruns if he could get out of the habit of facing the bowler in driving or playing forword ; has plenty of wrist power, and a lot of batting in him; a greatly improved point . G. H. T. Simpson - W i t hcare ought to prove a first-class cricketer ; asa bat has great reach a n d driving power, and played a fine innings against Repton ; is rather weakin his back play and requires more patience whenhe begins ; an excellent field . R. B. Porch- Hasthe making of a very useful cricketer ; plays with a very straight bat, and watches the ball , but is awkwardin his cutting ; and excellent field ; bowls slow with abig break from leg, but lacks precision . C. W. Elliott -A successful slow bowler, whovaries the pace and flight of the ball well ; has not madethe runs that were expected of him ; a very fair field , but rather slow . E. H. Simpson- Abatsman of the "stone -wall " type, with rather clumsy style , but lots of de- fence ; played two invaluable innings against M.C.C.; a good field . R. E. Foster - H a sthe making of an excellent bat, with plenty of style , and a good eye ; rather slow in the field . A. E. B.
