Since then some improvements have been madein the Machine, it having a double set of gearing which enables it to run with great smoothness. It cuts closer to the ground than the old pattern , a n dhasa very compacta n defficient GrassB o x. O n eof these machineshas been forwarded to us for the purpose of testing the value of its improvements. W ehave used itduring the whole of this exceptional season , and can testify to the extreme ease with whichit is workedandits great efficiency . Theease with which it is employed will in many casesallow itto be used so constantlythat there is nonecessity for using the grass box. The short grass cut off is a most valuable top dressing ; resting on the ground, it acts as a mostefficient mulch, rendering the growth of the grass much closer and finer than it wouldbeifthe groundis impoverished by the continual removal of that which is cut away.
