Quinton : An energetic captain , always intent on doing the best for his side ; a very fast but erratic bowler ; hard-hitting bat with strong but ugly defence ; a very smart ground field , but not a sure catch . F. B. Champain; A really good and stylish batsman ; promises to be quite first -class ; a smart point , and useful slow bowler (Captain for 1894.) *B. H. Bignell : A neat and certain batsman; his frequent absence madea great difference to the side . J. W. Stratton : Did not come up to expec- tations as a bat, but he bowled with great success during the latter half of the season , and always fielded brilliantly . (Wonthe fielding Prize .) H. C. Manners : Adiminutivebut effective batsman; hits wonderfully hard for his size ; more successful at begenning than end of season ; bowls lobs , good out field . E. H. B. Stanley : Apowerful hitter ; his defence is much improved ; played several fine innings at critical times . Agood field . F. R. Coates : Avery straight fast bowler with a good length and easy delivery ; did an excellent performance against Haileybury, might have been a good bat if he had taken more trouble , poor field . H .B. Jeffery : Aslow scorer , with ugly but strong defence ; moderate field , but madeconstant efforts to improve . R. E. Edmondson: Kept wicket pluckily , but theconstant succession of hard wickets spoilt his hands; did well against Clifton on a slow wicket . Poor bat. P. T. Bird: Astylish left handbat, shews great promise , fair field ; was discovered late in the season , but was well worth his place. H. D. Bowley : Avery steady bowler , fair bat, andreliable field .
