H. Belcher : Has gained greater strength and freedom of style and can punish loose bowling , but his awkward way of standing still spoils his defence ; fair wicket -keeper , and energetic captain . *C. G. Ames: A splendid hitter , his cutting and off -driving being especially brilliant , but his wrist power tempts him to rely too much on back play instead of using his legs and meeting the ball ; excellent field , especially in the deep . Е. В. Jacques : Batted muchmore steadily than in 1892, and deserved to have scored oftener ; his weakest spot is his fatal tendency to pull his drives ; his bowling, though erratic , was extremely useful , and his fielding very good. *R. B. Marshall : Muchimproved as a bowler , having learnt to vary his pace and getting on considerable break ; he should learn , however, to field better to his ownbowling ; in batting he came on a little , and played one or two decent innings , but after- wards fell off , his style being still very mechanical . *J. H. Furmedge : Acareful bat, with but little hitting power, often offering a stubborn resistance to good length bowling , but succumbing easily to a Yorker ; hard-working field . *A. J. A d a m: W i t ha good eye andlong reach, and some notion of style , ought tohave scored oftener, but wantof nerve wasthe cause of frequent failure ; stylish but not safe fielder . *R. W. Harris ; Left -hand slow bowler , with lots of break, but could not stand being hit ; his batting , though he has a good eye, was feeble ; a smart short -slip . * B. Strachan : Batted straight , but stifly , with great care and patience , and was not out in six innings ; plucky and energetic fielder . *J. К. Whish: Acurly , left -hand slow bowler , with a big break ; very effective on his day; fair field ; no bat. P. L. Le Febore : Was handicapped by an accident in the early part of the season , but his batting in the later matches showed that he had at least a good eye, and he gave promise of being a useful bowler . R. E. James : A small -sized but active fielder , and fluky bat, with no particular style , but sometimes hitting surprisingly hard. C H A R T E R H O U S E S C H O O L . Captain for 1893.-H.
