1 0 6 LILLYWHITE'SC R I C K E T E R S' A N N U A L. M I D D L E S E X . OFFICERSFOR 1893.--President, Earl of Strafford . Vice-Presidents, LordG . Hamilton, M.P., V. E. Walker. H o n. Treasurer, W .Nicholson. H o n. Sec. , P. M. Thornton. Assistant Sec. , J. A. Murdoch. Committee, H o n. A . Lyttleton, R. Henderson, G. Lee, J. Robertson, E. Rutter, C. M. Tebbut, M. Turner, C. I. Thornton , G. F. Vernon, V. E. Walker, I. D. Walker, J. G. Walker, A. J. W e b b e. Kent's victory over Middlesex in the last match gave the former the second place amongthe counties. Thevast resources of amateurtalent available under the residential qualification , have always made, and always will makeMiddlesex a formidable side , so far as betting is concerned . The advent too, of such a reliable manas J. T. Hearne, has of late years added so considerably to their strength as an all -round team, that they have to be reckoned with seriously at all times . Were their fielding as reliable as the other departments , they would indeed be quite up to the very best standard . With such players as Messrs . Stoddart , O'Brien , Webbe, Foley, Stanley , Scott , F. G. J. Ford, not to mention Rawlin and others of just a lesser grade , Middlesex has a batting combination which could hardly be excelled . The out-cricket too, was last year considerably strengthened by the inclusion of a really first -class wicket -keeper , Mr. G . McGregor. Like Lancashire , Middlesex had to rely on two bowlers ; still J. T. Hearneand Rawlin were both reliable , in fact , the former's record , considering the workhe had to do during the season, was most creditable . Rawlin's all- roundcricket wasone of the mostnoteworthyfeatures of the season. T h em o s t noticeable was the consistently fine batting of Mr. A. E. Stoddart , whose average wasthe best of the year in county cricket . The inclusion of Mr. J. Douglas, of the Cambridge eleven , in the Middlesex team certainly strengthened its all -round c r i c k e t. R e s u l t so f M a t c h e s . MatchesPlayed, 16. W o n, 9. Drawn, 1. Lost, 6.
