Lancaster , 46, St. George's Place , Canterbury . W I T Htheir full strength always available , Kent would have an eleven able to hold its own with the very best of its rivals . As it was their all-round cricket was sufficiently good to enable them to improve considerably on their record of 1892 . A tone time, about midwayduring the season , there seemed to be an outside chance even that they might actually be within hail of the first place . Still , considering that in several of their earlier matches , they had nothing like their best side , that their great batsman, Mr. W. H. Patterson , was only available on very rare occasions , and more than all that Walter Hearne's accident deprived themof one of quite the most dangerous bowlers of the day, the result of the year's cricket was on the whole satisfactory . Of batting Kent has , if anything , an embarrassment of riches . Their record with the bat, too, would, in all probability , have been much better had the Rev. W. Rashleigh , who was in fine form , been able to play more . Even without him Kent had an eleven , almost if not quite , without a weak spot in batting . Whatwas more gratifying , in Mr. J. R. Mason, the Winchester captain , they found not only abatsman of exceptional promise , but an all -round cricketer of more than ordinary ability . In bowling Kentwas able to claim what few other Counties could , four really reliable and useful bowlers . Even without Walter Hearne they had Wright, Martin, and Alec. Hearne , as well as useful changes in G. G. Hearne and Mr. Mason, R e s u l t so f M a t c h e s . Matches Played, 16. Won, 6. Drawn, 6. Lost, 4. Opponents. MatchesW o n(6). (1) Lancashire.
