Jackson from the Gentlemen , and of Lohmann unable to play owing to an injured hand, the two sides were thoroughly representative . The cricket , too , was quite worthy of the importance of the match , though the Players , with the advantage of first innings , proved themselves to be distinctly the better eleven at all points . G u n n ought to have been stumped whenhe had only made four , and this spoiled an otherwise fine display . Neither Shrewsbury , Barnes nor Wainwright ,however , madeany mistake , and the free hitting of the two last named was a great relief
