IRISH cricketers have always been very popular in America, and the teamwhich visited the States last autumn was no exception to the rule . In all eight matches were played , and of these only two resulted unfavourably for the Irish- men. Oneof these was in the first fixture against Fifteen of the Boston Club, and the defeat mayto a great extent be explained by the fact that the Irish teamhadnot got over the effects of the sea voyage, and were in anything but the best condition . The other was against the Gentlemen of Philadelphia , and here the Americans wonafter an exciting finish . The match against N e wYork was also full of excitement throughout , and was wonat the finish by the excep- tionally fine hitting of F. F. Kilkelly , who was credited with an extraordinary performance , no less than the addition of 37 runs in ten minutes . M. Gavin was responsible for another noteworthy achievement .
