In the Harrow Eleven of 1879 , and played occasionally for Surrey in 1881. A fine free -hitting batsman , scoring very heavily in military and other matches , as well as a brilliant field . Lost with the P. & O. steamer Bokhara on the wayfrom Shanghai to Hong Kong with other members of the Shanghai team. LANE, REV. C. G. One of the famous old Surrey eleven in the days of Miller Burbidge, Caffyn , Cæsar, and others . Educated at Westminster, andsubse- quently gained the distinction of a double blue at Oxford for cricket and rowing. Afine bat and good field . Born in the Vicarage just outside the Oval. November.
