A good bowler still , his curl from the leg being very effective ; has improved in batting , but was unable to help the County much last season owingto business pressure . TURNER, W. (Lancashire ). Born at Newport, March30, 1865. 5ft.6in .; 10st . 7lbs . Bats in excellent and thoroughly correct style , a sound and reliable bat ; a straight medium -pace bowler , at times very effective ; good field . Oneof the very best all -round cricketers of the day; a reliable bowler on all wickets , with plenty of work, varies his pace and pitch with judgment; a very dangerous bat at times , with plenty of hit ; a brilliant field anywhere. A nexcellent all -round cricketer ; one of the finest bowlers of the day, getting up very quickly from the pitch and coming back; at times quite unplayable ; a good out-field , and free bat, hitting well all round. Although out of form last year, is still a good fast bowler ; good pace , and comes back quickly at times ; fair bat ; excellent field , with a smart return .
