Oneof the very best left -handed batsmen in England , hitting hard all round ; excellent point ; did some fine per- formances for Somersetshire last year. NEWTON, A. E. (Eton and Oxford ). One of the best amateur wicket -keepers , standing well up to the fastest bowling ; very useful and plucky bat, generally making runs when wanted ; good field anywhere . (M.C.C.
