Ames, Captain (24.4 ) : Afine free -hitting bat ; very dangerous when set ; hits hard andclean, butrather weak in cutting ; an undeniably safe field in the country , where he has madesome brilliant catches ; has occasionally taken wickets , but did not bowl as a rule ; as captain , showed excellent judgment ; always setting a good example . C. King (31.2 ) : A very fine left- handed bat , with great punishing powers ; scored a century once and was very near it twice besides ; a good field and occasionally useful as a bowler , but needs a softer wicket than he usua'ly had. F. Joslin (15.7 ) : Amost useful cricketer ; avery trustworthy left -handbat, with some good strokes , especially on the off side ; a good field , and the best bowler in the team- left -handwith break both ways, mostly from leg , and getting very fast off the pitch . F. Atkin- son (13.9 ) : Unfortunate at first , which spoiled his average ; but as steady abat as there was in the team, andvery difficult to dislodge whenset ; bowled a good off break at times , and was safe in the field . C. Snell (10.5) : A fearless hitter , but with a tendency to begin too soon ; a very good right -hand fast bowler with a puzzling curl in the air ; rather slow in the field , but h a dasafe pair of hands. M. Biscoe (9) : Didwell at the end of the season with the bat, and shoulddevelop next season into a very useful m a n; bowlsa goodball attimes, andis anexcellent field close in-short mid-on or point in particular . P. Lefebre (8): A newmemberwith rather a want of confidence , and inclined to run away from his wicket ; a good field and shows promise of becoming a good slow bowler . W. Bird (6.8 ) : A keen cricketer , but rather disap- pointing inmatches ; with a little luck might turn out very well ; an excellent field , throwing inwith great accuracy ; bowls at times . H. Shaw (5.4 ) : Apainstaking bat,but at a disadvan- tage owing to his small size ; fielded well at point , but might sometimes take two hands where heuses one. W. Pocock (4.4): Although always promising , has never realised expectations in any particular ; has some good strokes and some very bad ones ; fields well on the whole, and
