Nicholson (27.66 ) : Was seldom able toplay,but evidently retains his old form both in batting and behind the wicket . W. H. Thorp (14.4): Is a mostpatient bat, but lacks hitting power. E. P. Gaskin (10.3 ) : Wasmore successful than in previous seasons ,but seldom played up to form. F. H. Whitehouse , Captain (10.28): Sets his team an excellent example, being a keen and plucky little cricketer . H. V. Rogers (9.83 ):Played one good innings , and showed very promising form all round . W. W. Tonkin (6.44): Displayed a great improvement this year , andwill makea good bat in time . A. J. C. Ross (12): Possesses a pretty style of batting , but lacks confidence . F. W. Simpson (5.44 ) : Willmakea fine hitter as he grows bigger , having a good eye and plenty of nerve . O. J. Sykes (4.5) : Wasa great disappointment ; he never came off , although probably the best bat in the eleven . H. D. Codling (2) : Wasanother failure , and anunaccountable one. L. H. Beaumont (1.6) : Ought to have done muchbetter than he did, but was too nervous to do himself justice . Thebest field menwere Simpson, Whitehouse , Rogers , and Codling . The bowlers whobore thebrunt of the work were Whitehouse (31 wickets ; average 2.27 ), Rogers (23 wickets ; average 4.9), and Gaskin (24 wickets ; average , 6.1). St. E d w a r d ' sSchool.- E. G. Read, captain (17) : Hascaptained the team very well ; h a dratherb a dluck at the beginningof the season. *A. C. Mace(20) : A goodbat; splendid fielder at point ; rather slow in making runs . *W. P. de Kitcat (29) : Has made runs in almost every match; has not got muchform,but was extremely useful to the team. N. Stanard (12) : Afair bat, and splendid bowler . *A. J. Arkwright (11) : Hasbeen very useful to the team at times; very strong on the leg side ; a fair field . R. G. L. Horton (14) : Agood bat, anda fairly goodbowler at times ; is rather erratic ; tries to bowl too fast . *H. Hamshaw(7) : Must learn to playmoreseriously ; tries tohit almost every ball . *J. W. Neal (8) : A rather cramped bat ; shouldhit more. *A. J. Bacon (6) : Is handicapped byhis size ; is a fair field . J. Willgrass (9) : Avery poky batsman; too clumsy in fielding . A. C. Miller (5) : A fair bat,and has bowled withlittle success. St. John's School Leatherhead. Captain for 1892, E. Cleave ; Hon. Secretary , G. E. Wollen . Matches played , 16 ; won, 7; drawn , 2; lost , 7. E. Cleave (7.3 ) : A nexcellent captain ; as a bat did not realise the expectations formed from his last year's play,but luck has been against him ; good change bowler (medium pace ) keeping a good length ; fair field . J. A. Francis (14.7 ) : A good painstaking bat,but almost too careful at times; hasplayed some very good innings ; generally a safe field ,but has his off days. J. B. Hall(4.6): Fully came up to the expectations formed of him last year ; is much above the average of school bowlers , with Hodson bore the brunt of the bowling most successfully ; per- hapsdoes not bowl his fastest often enough ; a bat with good hitting powers but marred by an awkwardflourish ; careless field . A. H. Hodson (7) : Like Hall muchabove the average school bowler; is wortha m u c hbetter average, but the majority of catches missedc a m efromhis bowling ; gets a good amountof work on the ball and keeps a good length ; good field andwill makea fair bat if he takes pains . G. E. Wollen (12.2 ) : Agood bat with awkward style ; has somevery hard strokes on the off ; is weak on the leg ; loses manyruns by not backing up; M a d esomegood innings , notably in the M.C.C. match; poor field , does not knowthe art of throwing in. W. B. Sandberg (20.2 ): Avery good bat, has come on wonderfully ; has some very good strokes on the off ; cuts well and "good all round " ; good field andfair change bowler; has wonthe average bat. R. M. Rees (18.5 ) : Very good bat andhard to bowl ; good all round the wicket , but has some ugly uppish strokes ; good field ; kept wicket fairly at the beginning of the season . C. E. Muckleston (8.9) : Very fair bat, but too slow and methodical ; isstrongo nthe leg; doesnotput enoughlife into his strokes ; brilliant field at point. F.H . Mustard(7.9) : Considering his years a very good bat, though careless ; has a nasty uppish stroke , which he must remedy; hits hard andclean ; a fair bowler and good field . G. S. F. Rutty (8.8): Goodbat but unlucky ; has a nice free style and hits hard and clean ; good field in the country , and when fortune smiles bowls a good ball . T. A. Smallwood (9.3) : Fair wicket -keeper , with practice will be good; stands up to Hall and takes the ball well , but is too impatient ; in anxiety to stump neglects catches ; a hard-hitting bat and liable to score .
