M'Lachlan : One of the very best wicket- keepers we have ever had ; a useful and vigorous bat , hitting well to leg ; an excellent judge of a run ; and has kept his eleven well together . *J. A. Smith : Astiff bat, with a very long reach ; played a good innings against Rossall ; a fair field , and tolerably safe catch . *D. W. Donaldson : Disappointing as abat ; a fine deep field , though sometimes rather slow in getting to a catch , *A. G. Cowan: A greatly improved bat, and played some very good innings , notably against Merchiston ; at the beginning of the season he bowled consistently well, and always kept up his end, but latterly the hard work seemed to tell against him. *J. W. Struthers : A strong bat, but too uncertain ; he seemed to lose his wicket several times through carelessness ; would have been a good field if hehad been neater in picking up the ball . *A. C. Robertson : A remarkably goodlong -field , covering agreat deal of ground, but not a sure enough catch ; a thundering hitter whenhe was allowed to stay . J. C. Swanston : His slow bowl- ing was as useful as ever , but he hardly did himself justice as a bat or a field . G. A. Combe : Should have madefar more runs than he did, but perhaps lacked confidence on first going in ; a good field . H. A. Browne: Like some others , he generally got out too soon, but played some useful innings in good style ; a fair though rather slow field . W. Drysdale : Avery promising cricketer , andthoroughly justified his place ; a steady , straight bowler, and a keen field . A . S. Woodcock : Afair bowler, and improving bat; has a safe pair of hands, a n dthrowsinwell.
