Shearme (captain ) : Very good fast right -hand bowler ; bowled with great success throughout the season ; good hitting powers, but rather weakdefence ; splendid field . *E. Berens : Splendid left -handed bowler , always reliable and keeps a good length ; he and Shearme bore the brunt of the bowling throughout season ; good bat with great cutting powers . F. B. Sherring : Best bat in the eleven , with good defence and splendid hitting powers all round the wicket ; experienced hard luck at the beginning of the season ; fair wicket -keeper . *D. Fitzmaurice : Off colour at the beginning of the season , but came on towards the end both as a bat andbowler, W .F. D'Arcy: A good steady bat, but fell off towards the end of the season ; fair field . *C. E. Page : Fair bat , with good hitting powers , but weak defence ; fell off at end of season ; magnificent field , especially in the " country ." J. F. More: Very good bat ; strong defence , and fair hitting powers ; fair bowler . W. L. Armstrong : Very patient player , with wonderfully good defence and some hitting powers; splendid field . J. H. Alderson : Goodsteady bat at end of the season , but unlucky at the beginning ; a brilliant field at point . D. Shearme : A good change bowler ; but did not have muchchance of dis- tinguishing himself ; fair bat . R.
