R. Bardswell (Captain ) : Amediumpace bowler, and able to keep the ball a good length ; varies his pace and pitch with- out altering his delivery ; a good field in the slips ; bats well-being able to cut and drive -and has a good defence ; an excellent judge of the game, and has therefore madea good captain ; will be captain again next season . *W .M. Hemingway : A really fine cricketer with the splendid batting average of fifty- seven; hits hard all round the wicket , his cut being especially crisp ; has fielded magnificently at extra cover throughout the season . *A. P. Whitwell : A stylish batsman who has played some useful innings , but has not quite fulfilled our expectations of last year ; a very smart field at cover with quick return . C. E. M. Wilson : A fine all -round player ; his batting has been consistently good ; while his bowling was most effective in the early part of the season ; we expect great things of him next year . S. A. Sharp : Has anaccountably fallen off inhis bowling, but wehave no doubt it will return to himnext year ; might m a k ea bat if he wouldcure himself of a bad cross stroke ; uncertain in the field . * D. Smith : Though naturally a free hitter adopted a cramped style of play, which caused him to make half hits and has prevented him from doing him- self justice this year ; useful change bowler , good field and thrower . E. Cowan : First to receive his colours this year, andhas thoroughly deserved them; a good and plucky wicket -keeper , whostands well up to all bowling ; has played some veryuseful innings , butmust cultivate back play more. G .S. Clover : Improved steadily as the season advanced ; is nowa strong hitter , especially on the off side , frequently made runs when most wanted ; bowls well at times ; fair field at point . A. W. Watson : A hard -working cricketer ; as a bat is at present rough , butwith practice m a ybecome good ; a really fine field at mid-off ; fair left- handbowler. E. F. R. Holroyd : Developed into a good run-getting bat, but should makemore use of his height and strength ; slow in the field ; canbowl. S. P. Bell : Judging from the form he showed at the end of the season , with practice and attention to coaching will become a very nice bat ; smart in the field .
