James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1893
1 6 6 LILLYWHITE'S CRICKETERS ' ANNUAL. REPTONELEVEN IN 1892 .-*J. Hewetson (Captain ) : Played several useful innings , andcould always be trusted to do his best ; quick and energetic field . H .J. Davenport : Wouldbe a good bat if he could learn to play straight on the off-stump; an improved but still slow field . G. H. Busby: Unfortunately absent for some weeks at beginning of the season ; has plenty of cricket in him; must learn patience , and then ought to develop into a good all -round m a n; smart and safe field anywhere. E. H. Beazley : Hits resolutely , and was a fairly consistent scorer ; useful change bowler , and fair field . *W. M. Crozier : Played respectably once or twice , but, on the whole, was most disappointing . G. F. Abell : Is wanting in style , but has plenty of pluck, and could generally be depended on for runs; fields with considerable dash, but is apt to over-run the ball . *T. H. Cliff : Ought to make a very fair batsman, but at present is apt to hit wildly directly he goes in ; fielded very fairly throughout , though handicapped by a bad hand. *J. H. Manley : Began the season well with bat andball, but afterwards fell off unaccountably , anddid not recover his bowling until the last few matches . G. H. Shepstone : Bowledwell with a wet ball against the Old Reptonians ; sacrifices too muchto pace ; if careful and atten- tive to advice m a yvery possibly be a good bowler and bat next year. H. J. Bryant : Occasionally sends downa most difficult ball , but as yet has not sufficient accuracy ; a rough and ready batsman , but always liable to score . *F. L. Prentice : Has some notion of hitting , but is too eager ; a certain victim to any bowler with a head on his shoulders . R O S S A L L S C H O O L . Owingto loss of score book it has not been possible to obtain results of matches . B A T T I N GA V E R A G E S . T i m e s M o s tin I n n s. not out. R u n s. a nInns. Average. A . J.
