James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1893
T H EUNIVERSITIESA N DPUBLICSCHOOLSIN 1892. 1 5 1 butas a bat has suffered from want of practice . W. E. M. Tyndall : Another sadexample of the sacrifice of education to examination ; a good field ; a pretty bat, with a capital stroke on the off ; like nearly all the eleven does not play straight on the leg stump. F. T. Anderson : Has improved immensely; still wantsstyle as a batsman, but plays freely and seldom fails to score ; an excel- lent wicket -keeper . G. D. Dahse : Has worked very hard for the eleven , and thoroughly deserved his colours ; as a bowler has rather been inclined to sacrifice pitch to pace , but in this department , as in batting , has always played a plucky game; must learn to play forward more. A . Hinde : A steady bowler with goodpitch, but got very stale towards the end of the season ; a disappointing bat, playing forward to everything , but will do good things . *H. McIlquham : A nugly bat, but plucky and scores ; a good field , and has tried to bowl lobs . *G. D. Veitoh : A fair field and steady bat, but has no hit ; very tender to a long-hop, andhas always nursed a half -volley . W. O. Cautley : A capital fast bowler, straight , and of good length ; if the bowling competition maybe taken as a test , is the best bowler we have had for years ; a poor bat ; unfortunately wasable to play but little , owing to examinations and illness . R. C. Page : A keencricketer , but a very disappointing one; plays a good straight bat, butdoes not get runs; ought to be good next year if he can get over his fondness for 1b w. H. E. Haig : Will be good all round next year ; can bowl a bit ; fields well, andcanhit excellently . G. H. Hewitson : A promising bowler and bat, only wants height ; plays with a straight bat, and bowls a good length . B R I G H T O N C O L L E G E . Captain for 1892 , S. W. S. Collins .
