The first appearance of this year's Cambridge eleven away from home, and a highly successful one in every way. Certainly Surrey severely missed both Lohmannand Wood, to which must partly be attributed their defeat . For the University , two splendid displays of batting were given by P. H. Latham(not out 64, and run out 54), while Martin-Scott (32 and56) and Streatfeild (38 and 22) also scored well . O nthe losing side , J. Shuter, whose first display of 93 wasan exposition of fine cricket , scored 121 for once out, and he received useful support from Henderson (61 and 10) and Abel (3 and 47). Altogether 938 runs were totalled in the match , Cambridge winning a highly creditable victory by 80 runs . Surrey , 267 and 162 ; total , 429. Cambridge University , 218 and 291 ; total , 509,
