His remarkable innings of 145 (not out) and 93 pleased the spectators so much, indeed , that the sum of £22 1s. 6d. was sub- scribed and presented to him. He was well supported by Marlow (26 and 50) , but Quaife was unluckily run out twice . O nGunn(whohad made69 the first time) and Shrewsbury getting together in Nottingham's second innings , a rare stand wasmade-and these two celebrated players added no fewer than 266- Shrewsbury 165 and Gunn161. On their dismissal the closure rule was put in force , andNotts ultimately wona splendid match by 144 runs. Notts, 301 and 340 (innings declared , four wickets ) ; total 641.
