He and Mr. Hadow (34) added 55 for the fifth wicket of Middlesex . Though without Messrs . Webbe, Nepean, and Scott , Middlesex always had a little in hand. Lord Hawkewas unable to assist Yorkshire . Webbe, Mr. O'Brien captained Middlesex , and he again gave a splendid batting display . In about thirty -five minutes he and Mr. Stoddart scored 66 for the first wicket , and then Mr. Stanley Scott (52) helped O'Brien to put on 125 for the second . The latter was out at 219 for a brilliant and faultless 113, got in two hours and a half . Fromthis point the batting broke down, seven wickets adding but 35 runs . Though the sixth wicket of Somerset , thanks to the free cricket of Mr. Hewett (65), fell at 144, they just failed to save the follow , and going in again fared very indifferently on a treacherous ground.
