For their good total of 218 , Somerset were largely in- debted to Messrs . L. C. Palairet (79) and Challen , whoput on 95 while together . OnlyMr. Leslie Wilson, of the Kentish batsmen, played in his true form the first time ; the second , Messrs . Marchant (39), Fox (36), and Braybrooke (40) all hit well . TheWesterners had too long a lead , though , andwonby five wickets . Somersetshire , 218 and 50 (five wickets ) ; total , 268. Kent, 106 and 160 ; total , 2 6 6. (4) K e n tv. N o t t s. Tonbridge , July 23 , 24, and 25. Anotherproof washere afforded of the excellence of the Tonbridge ground, andthree days of interesting cricket produced 913 runs for 27 wickets . Kent h a dfirst knock, andtowardstheir fine total of 382 Mr. F o xcontributed 1 0 3 - his first hundred for the county and a fine display of batting -Alec Hearne (59), and Mr. Marchant (89) again came very near three figures . Mr. Marchant at onetime made50 in thirty minutes . Notts rejoined with 346 , Flowers (116 not out) andShrewsbury (82) doing most of the heavy run-getting . The former especially hit vigorously , and gave no chance till he had made70. M r, Fox alto- gether scored 147 for once out. Thegamewas drawn. Thoughbeaten in the end, Somersetshire confirmed their previous good all- round form. Mr. Patterson was absent from Kent. As the ground was, scoring proved difficult , and it was not till the second " hands " of Somerset that the bowlers were muchtroubled , as they were by Mr. C. J. Robinson (55), Mr. S. M. J. Woods(47), and Nichols (37). Kenthad nearly 200 to get, and thanks to three batsmen, Messrs . Rashleigh , Braybrooke , and Alec Hearne, who between themmade153 out of 188 , found themselves with four wickets in hand at the finish . Kent96 and 198 (six wickets ) ; total , 294. Canterbury , August 6, 7, and 8 . Thesecond fixture of the week, and one to a great extent ruined by rain . Though at one time , thanks to Abel's 51 and Lockwood's 48, a hundred had been gotfor onem a n, the Surrey total only realized 169. This wasmore than enough for Kent, though, for w h o monly Messrs . Marchant andWilson showed really good form either time . Lohmannand Sharpe had phenomenal figures , especially onthe first day.
