Nobodyon either side , indeed , could get 40 runs , the principal scorers being Mr. Leslie Wilson (35 and 10) and Alec Hearne (3 and 34) for Kent, Messrs. Nepean(29 and 21) and Stanley Scott (29 and 3) for Middlesex . Though J. T. Hearne accomplished a fine bowling performance for Middlesex , Martin had an even better record for Kent, whowonby 34 runs. Mr. Newhamheaded the score with a finely -hit 105 , Beanscored 97, Mr. Brann 51 , Humphreys 63 (not out), and Butt 43. In proof of the excellent performance of the two first -namedit maybe added that neither gave a chance . Bean was batting for three hours . Mr. Marchant hit out magnificently when Kent went in, his splendid 123 containing only sixteen singles . Atone time while he was in, 27 runs were got in ten minutes . As rain interfered with its later stages , the game had to be left unfinished , 623 runs having been got for fifteen wickets . Sussex , 431. Kent, 192 (five wickets ).
