Thematchwas practically a blank owing to persistent rain, and thus the Cheltenhamw e e kof 1891 closed in gloom. Onlyfour hours and ahalf of actual play took place , none at all being permissible on the Saturday. After along spell of ill -luck Dr. W. G. Grace at last came off , andhis 72 (not out), for which he was batting the whole time that play lasted , was deserving of the highest praise con- sidering the unfavourable conditions . Messrs . Webbe, Nepean, and Scott were absent from Middlesex . The game was drawn. Gloucestershire , 145 (six wickets).. (15) Gloucestershirev Notts. Clifton , August 24, 25, and 26. Noteworthy for a good performance by Arthur Shrewsbury (94) , whơ surprised the spectators by the rapidity of his hitting . R u n-getting was foundpretty difficult owing to the soft ground, but the great batsman made nothing like a mistake during the two hours and a half he was in, and owing to his efforts Notts reached a good total of 205. Gloucestershire had responded with 73 for five (Dr. E. M. Grace not out 43), when stumps and matchwere drawnowing to rain . Notts, 205. Gloucestershire , 73 (five wickets ) .
