THE MARYLEBONECLUB IN 1891. 3 9 w h ocontributed 129 between them, the Oxonians reached the respectable total of 191, to which the Club responded with one less . Bean(60) andBurns, of Essex (56), did well in batting for Marylebone , who were ultimately left with only 104 runs to win. This they achieved for the loss of only two men, Chatterton being seen to advantage in a fine not-out innings of 50. M.C.C. wonby eight wickets . M.C.C. and Ground, 190 and 104 (two wickets ) ; total , 294. University , 191 and 102 ; total , 293 . (10) M.C.C.a n dG r o u n dv. Somersetshire. Taunton, August21 and 22. M.C.C. sent downonly a moderate side , which the Western County, though without Mr. S. M. J. Woods and deprived by an accident of Nichols ' bowling ,had little difficulty in defeating . Curiously enough, the all -round cricket of Mr. G. Fowler, whoplayed as substitute for Mr. Woods, wasthe principal factor in this success . H enot only scored 51, but took six Marylebone wickets for 54 runs. Messrs . Challen and L. C. Palairet supported himwith two well-got scores of 39 and 35 respectively . Excepting Mr. W. H. Brain's 65 (not out) in the first innings , there was little of note in the M.C.C. batting . Somersetshire wonby six wickets . Somersetshire , 228 and 28 (four wickets ); total , 256.
