3 8 LILLYWHITE'SCRICKETERS' A N N U A L. in the first " hands," scored the remarkable proportion of 70 out of 76 runs. His runs were got in an hour and a quarter , on a difficult ground and against the best bowling ; altogether it was an exceptionally fine performance . As it was, the Dark Blues in their two attempts could only make a few more than the M.C.C. in their one innings . There were nine double figures in the Marylebone total , Mr. O'Brien making 40, Attewell 30, and Mr. Ferris 32 not out. M.C.C. w o nbynine wickets . Owing to a remarkable collapse in the Nottingham batting , the match was begunand ended in one day. Mr. J. A. Dixon and Shrewsbury were absent from Notts , who made a very poor show against Rawlin and Mr. Ferris on a sticky wicket . The score sheet ,indeed , presented an extraordinary appearance at the close of their first innings , 15 runs having been scored from the bat, and seven menhaving failed to score . At their second attempt , Mr. C. W. Wright (39) and Attewell contributed 55 out of 69 . innings and 37 runs. M.C.Cand Ground, 127. The Kentbatting , if uneven, was decidedly good, Messrs . F. Marchant (73 and 3), G. J. V. Weigall (7 and 61), F o x(0 and56) , and Walter Wright (44) and 3) all scored freely . Mr. W. G. Cambridge suffered a far more serious defeat than in the previous match. Thoughthey had the worst of the wicket , their display was very disappointing . Despite the good cricket of Mr. W. I. Rowell, a Cambridge Senior (53), it was not until late in the innings that Marylebone looked in for a big score . Attewell (62) and J. T. Hearne (39) gave a lot of trouble , and the total realised 283 . Dismissed for the small score of 36 at their first attempt , the University could not makeup their lost ground , and were beaten by an innings and 134 runs to spare .
