A tremendous hitter , but is seldom abletoplay. GOSLING, R. C. (Eton and Cambridge). Bats in neat style , and will in all likelihood yet develop into a goodbatsman; a sure field . JOHNSTON , A. S. An exceedingly good bat, with strong defence and great hitting powers ; a capital field . LUCAS, A. P. (Uppingham and Cambridge ). Still one of the best batsmen of the day, playing in correct style and with great defence ; good field and useful slow bowler ; played at least one fine innings for the County in 1891 . OWEN, H. G. (Cambridge ). Again kept up his reputation as a sound and careful batsman; was of the greatest service to the County. R O W E, F. E. (Marlborough and Cambridge). A sound bat, and good field ; was of great service to the County. G L O U C E S T E R S H I R E . BROWN, H. W. Makes more runs than any one else in local matches, but fails in first class ; fair bowler , and poorish field , from wantof energy. CHARD, H. W. A medium-pace bowler, keeping a good length , and uses his h e a d. CRANSTON, J. A fine left -handed bat; hitting very hard whenset ; owingto ill -health could not play muchlast season -a serious loss to the County. CROOME, A. C. M. (Wellington and Oxford). A useful all -round cricketer ; hits very hard ; a good field , and at times of service as a change bowler , EVANS, D. L. (Loretto ). Apromising young cricketer ; bats steadily and well . GEACE, E. M. Still a very effective bat, with a good eye for hitting ; plays in a style of his own; a splendid field . GRACE, W. G. Still one of the very best batsmen of the day; hits all round freely , and times the ball with extraordinary precision ; bowls with great success , having a high delivery , and varying his pace and pitch with great judgment ; a brilliant field anywhere , and never loses interest in the game ; owing to an accident was absent from two County matches last year. LEATHAM, A. E. (Cambridge). Agood field close to the wicket , but not safe in the long - field ; bowls left round medium. NEWNHAM, A. (Malvern). A good fast round-armbowler, and likely run-getter ; was, unfortunately , absent from England last season . PAGE, H. V. (Cheltenham and Oxford) . Ahard-working andexcellent all -round cricketer ; bowls medium-round , at times with great success ; rarely fails to makeruns , and fine field anywhere. PEAKE, E. (Marlborough and Oxford) . At times a very dangerous fast bowler ; hits hard ; only able to play rarely now. PULLEN, W. W. F. A fine bat , with a capital stroke just in front of point ; good field ; played fine cricket on several important occasions . RADCLIFFE, O. G. A very useful all -round cricketer ; a safe and reliable bat, and useful change bowler (slow round ), with considerable break . (Lord Sheffield's Australian Team, 1891-92 .) SAINSBURY, E. Still bats well ; slowish in the field . TOWNSEND, F. A first -rate batsman, with good hitting power all round ; a fine field ; at times a successful " lob" bowler. VIZARD, W . O. (Clifton ). A very good bat on a fast wicket , with forward play, but not muchuse on a slow wicket ; is slow but safe in the field . WREFORD-BROWN, C. (Charterhouse and Oxford ).
