Bell : Fair , though somewhatuntutored, bat ; moderatefield . W . Douglass: Played one good innings, but otherwise failed to realize expectations ; fair field . W. H. C. Forster: Good, thoughrather anerratic , fast bowler ; a good field ; still spoils his batting by refusing to hit a half -volley . H. H. Gill : Weak, though correct , bat ; slow in the field . G. S. Kewney(Captain ) : Good bowler, butrathergiven to experiments and thereby losing length; moderatebat andfield. A.Harrison : Disappointing , should improve considerably in another year. E. A. Humble: Capital bat ; a plucky andhard-hitting cricketer . A. E. Souter : Fair bat ; terribly slow in the field . W . Souter: Didmoderatelywell behindthe wicket ; makesrunsinhis o w nw a y. C. W. Walker: Hits well , though is apt to get bowled by a simple ball on first going in ; often gets wickets whenothers cannot , but not a reliable bowler ; poor field . A. Wesencraft : Showsgreat promise as a bowler ; poor bat andfield . Mr. H. A. Crallan (35) and Mr. D. G. Evans (17.3) playedfrequently. B O W L I N G A V E R A G E S . G. S. K e w n e y W .H .C. Palmer : A nice bat with good defence ,but wanting in hitting powers ; smart field at cover . H. Bilsborrow : An energetic andhard-working captain ; hitting bat with style of his own; quick field anywhere with asure pair of hands, and can take the wickets . A. Maguire : Animproving bat, andbowls slow left -hand; excellent field and safe catch . A. Dalby : Agood bowler , mediumright -hand, and" comes back " a good deal ; has a fine off -drive , but wants moredefence . A. Dawson: A slogging bat with no idea of defence ; erratic but sometimes dangerous bowler. V. O'Conor : Adiminutivebatsmanwith a fair idea of defence but noneof hit ; his handsare too small to hold a catch . J. Clapperton : Adeliberate and straight bowler, but must learn to pitch his bowling up more and take it less to heart whenhe is hit ; bats and fields with an equal absence of merit. G. Thornton : His huge hands enable him to bring off manycatches , buth e is notalways certain ; a defensive bat and would do better to hit more. F. Scoles : Remarkablysafe field , but, as a bat, does not often trouble the scorers . E. Mahoney: A slow and straight bowler , feeble bat, and " funks " in the field . C. Morgan: A cramped bat, but canhithard; pluckyanduseful field . R u t h i nG r a m m a rSchool.-D. P. Williams , Captain (33.1 ) : A hard-working and successful captain ; a really good all -round cricketer , combining strong defence with great punishing powers; aright -armbowler both fast and straight , a safe catch , andanimmense acquisition to anyeleven. J. T. L. Jenkins (7.5) : Asoundbat ; hasbatted with great success all through the season , has an excellent defence and a good leg hit , should punish loose bowling more; fields well at point , and is a fair change bowler . R. S. Alston (3.4) : Batted fairly on several occasions, hasa very pretty cut,did not comeu p to last year's expectations ; bowled well at times ; in the field should try and be much quicker on the ball . T. G. Griffiths (5.3 ) : Took no pains with his batting in practice , and was consequently quite at sea when batting in matches; a goodbowlerwith a puzzling off-break; hastakenthe wicket well. F. W. Evanson (4.2): Ahardhit, with a straight bat, drives well on the ground ; a most erratic bowler , full pitches to leg being his favourite ball ; useless in thefield . A. P. G. Evanson (4.2) : Very disappointing as a bat, makes no use whatever of his long reach ; an exceedingly useful long- leg, covers a lot of ground and throws excellently . R. L. Jones (2.2): Batted well at the beginning of the season , but fell off towards the end, must learn to play forward ; inclined to beslow in the field . T. Price (1.4) : Apainstaking and useful bat, and an excellent leg hit , his defence is rather weak ; should make a good bowler next season ; inclined to be slovenly in the field . A. T. Hone(6.8): Cameoff in batting once or twice when others failed , should makemoreuse of his reach and learn to hit hard, has nodefence ; bowled well during the latter part of the season . R. E. Wright (2.7): A very energetic cricketer ; bats in good style with a lot of wrist -play ; takes great pains in practice ; is at present handicapped byhis size ; a smart field . H. Jones : Played for his fielding ; amost plucky and successful longstop ; at present notm u c huse as abat.
